Drew Timme Ties NCAA Tourney Record as Gonzaga Reaches Sweet 16

Gonzaga extended its stay in the NCAA tournament after fending off TCU in the round of 32. Drew Timme was his usual dominant self in the win over the Horned Frogs, leading the charge for the Bulldogs with 28 points.

In doing so, Timme joined a select group of college basketball standouts in NCAA tournament history, becoming just the seventh player to record nine 20-plus point games in the Big Dance.

No player in men's college basketball history has more such games, so Timme will have the chance to make the record his own when Gonzaga takes the court against UCLA in the Sweet 16.

BISHOP: The Full Drew Timme Experience

On par with Timme with nine 20-plus point games in the NCAA tournament are Princeton's Bill Bradley, UConn's Richard Hamilton, Houston's Elvin Hayes, Kansas's Danny Manning, Michigan's Glen Rice, and Arkansas’s Corliss Williamson.

On the night, Timme provided a game-high 28 points to go with eight rebounds, three assists, and one block. The senior shot 12-for-21 from the field and made his only three-point shot, helping the Bulldogs secure an 84–81 victory over TCU in a hard-fought battle.

The Zags have now reached the Sweet 16 in each of their last eight trips to the Big Dance, all of which have come under head coach Mark Few.

The big man will look to stand alone in NCAA history next time he takes the court, if he's able to stay hot offensively.
