Browns put Drew Stanton on injured reserve, promote RB Elijah McGuire

The Browns made two roster moves in advance of Monday night’s Week 2 contest against the New York Jets. Backup QB Drew Stanton has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Taking his place on the roster is running back Elijah McGuire, who has been on the practice squad. The Browns were down a running back with Dontrell Hilliard out and D’Ernest Johnson being the only reserve behind Nick Chubb.

McGuire knows the Jets well; he was a sixth-round pick by New York in 2017 and started five games for the team over two seasons.

Stanton’s job as Baker Mayfield’s backup now falls to Garrett Gilbert. The Browns do not have a third QB on the roster or practice squad.
