Drew Lock trucked a defender at Broncos’ opening minicamp practice

Drew Lock came to play.

On the first day of mandatory minicamp, the Broncos’ second-round draft pick trucked cornerback Trey Johnson while scrambling down the sideline at practice.

Johnson is a 5-11, 170-pound cornerback, so he was certainly overmatched going up against a 6-4, 228-pound Lock.

Lock certainly didn’t shy away from running during his four years at Missouri, toting the ball 202 times for 437 yards and nine touchdowns. His poor yards-per-carry average with the Tigers (2.2) can probably be blamed in part on kneel-down carries. He’d certainly say so, anyway.

Right now, Lock figures to be the team’s third-string option behind veterans Joe Flacco and Kevin Hogan. If he shows progress this summer, though, Lock could emerge as the team’s No. 2 quarterback.

The Broncos will practice again Wednesday and Thursday before players go on vacation for the summer and later report back for the start of training camp in mid-July. Denver has not yet announced its 2019 training camp schedule but the team is expected to begin practices on or around July 17.
