Drew Lock told agent he wouldn’t miss Broncos practice

Drew Lock was selected one spot after offensive lineman Dalton Risner in this year’s NFL draft, which means he was in line to be paid a little less than his rookie teammate.

Lock’s agency — led by Tommy Condon, Tom Condon and Jimmy Sexton — wanted their client to get a “quarterback premium” and more guaranteed money than Risner received from the Broncos.

Lock’s agency threatened a training camp holdout but the quarterback himself never planned to let that happen.

“The Broncos and my agency were working together, but I told my agency beforehand, if it got to the point where I was missing practice, then there was no chance we were going to go on with it,” Lock said after practice Thursday, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.

“I was going to sign a deal and I was going to get here, because the most important thing to me was getting out here. If I missed the conditioning test — which I made up after practice, you may have seen it — that was OK because I was able to make it up. But missing anything else is just now who I am.”

Lock signed with the team on the eve of camp and received a signing bonus worth about $3.1 million, a little less than Risner’s bonus that was worth about $3.2 million. In the end, showing up to practice was more important to Lock than holding out for extra money.
