Drew Lock recalls water bottle incident from South Carolina game

During a game between Missouri and South Carolina in 2016, a Gamecocks fan threw a water bottle on the field after a Tigers score.

Quarterback Drew Lock, who was a sophomore at the time, picked up the bottle and drank from it.

“That’s just kind of the guy I’ve been my whole life,” Lock said with a smile during his introductory press conference on April 27. “I’ve kind of had a little chip on my shoulder. I like to have a little fun with it.

“Yeah, we went in and scored, and South Carolina is one of the cooler places to play in the SEC. They threw a water bottle at one of my teammates, and for some reason something clicked in my head to go over there, pick it up and act like I was drinking it.”

That was a bit of a risky move by Lock as there was no guarantee that the bottle would have water in it. Fortunately for Lock, it was water.

“It was water, yes, to answer your question,” Lock said. “It was water. You might have seen a different reaction from me if it wasn’t water. It was definitely water.”

Lock would probably be wise to not drink from any bottles thrown at him during games against the Raiders in the future.
