Drew Lock has extra motivation after not being selected in 1st round of NFL draft

Missouri quarterback Drew Lock was widely considered by draft analysts one of the top three quarterbacks in this year’s class, often projected to be selected in the first round. In fact, he was a popular pick for the Broncos at No. 10 in many mock drafts.

NFL teams apparently felt differently than draft analysts as three quarterbacks — Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones and Dwayne Haskins — were all picked before Lock, who didn’t even go off the board in the first round.

Lock slid down into the second round, where Denver picked him.

“It certainly does,” Lock said on April 26 when asked if being selected in the second round of the draft gives him extra motivation. “I know the kind of player I am and know what kind of player I’m going to be, and this adds a little chip to the shoulder bigger than the one that’s already on there.

“I’d say it’s almost a full Pringle size — the king-size Pringles right now — that’s how big the chip on my shoulder is. But it’s good. If I for some reason I needed any extra motivation, I definitely got it.”

It’s a win-win for the Broncos because they got the QB they wanted and he’s going to have extra motivation to prove other NFL teams wrong. The fact that Denver also landed tight end Noah Fant and offensive lineman Dalton Risner before selecting Lock is icing on the cake.
