Broncos draft pick Drew Lock will work with his rookie teammates at rookie minicamp this weekend before returning to the team’s facility for the starting of organized team activities next week. During OTAs, he’ll get to work with the team’s veteran receivers as well as the rookies.
“Emmanuel Sanders, Courtland Sutton, the list goes on — I’m sure I’m going to get a little closer with those guys as the days come — but I’m super excited to be able to have guys that you can put a ball out there for and they’re going to go up and get it,” Lock said during an introductory press conference on April 27.
Lock is also eager to work with tight end Noah Fant — the team’s first-round pick in April’s draft — as well as Denver’s young running backs.
“Noah was one of the most highly touted tight ends coming into this, and I’m lucky enough to be on a team with him now and go out there and play with him on Sundays,” Lock said. “I couldn’t be more excited to be able to be around those guys, including the running backs. You’ve got Phillip [Lindsay], you’ve got Royce [Freeman], I’m just really excited.”
Joe Flacco will be running the team’s first-team offense at practice so Lock may not end up working with players like Sanders, Sutton and Fant too often, at least not right away. Once he does get to work with them, Lock will quickly begin building chemistry with his new playmakers.
“It’s going to be fun to be able to see how they work, figure them out how they break out of routes, what’s their speed,” Lock said.
