As the entire NBA world freaked out about the blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers, LaVar Ball conveniently had to find out about his son’s trade while standing in a packed gym.
LaVar was just rolling into LaMelo’s Drew League game Saturday as news broke of the trade (Lonzo, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and draft picks are heading to New Orleans). There was simply no way that LaVar could play it off as cool — at least initially — because, well, the in-arena commentator announced news of the trade over the loud speakers.
From that moment on, fans directed their phones and cameras at LaVar who was taking phone calls and looking visibly upset.
Lonzo himself eventually showed up to the game and took a seat in the stands.
After the game, which LaMelo’s team won in a blowout (he had 21 points), LaVar spoke to reporters and said that the Lakers would never win a championship after trading his son.
So, yeah, he’s taking this news well.
