Drew Brees isn’t ready to say goodbye to his football career just yet, but when the time comes to hang up his helmet, he knows where he’ll be headed next.
According to the New York Post, Brees has signed a broadcast deal with NBC Sports, set to kick in when he retires from the Saints. Per the Post, Brees picked NBC over ESPN, where he is expected to be game analyst for Notre Dame football and a studio analyst for Sunday Night Football.
Brees, 41, recently signed a two-year deal with the Saints but there’s a very real chance the upcoming season, whenever it actually starts, could be his last with New Orleans.
The Post also reports that Brees would be groomed to be the potential replacement for Cris Collinsworth, though there’s no word on whether or not he’ll do Collinsworth’s patented slide.
“Like all NFL fans, we look forward to watching Drew continue his Hall of Fame career this fall, and we are confident his post-playing career will be just as successful,” NBC Sports spokesman Greg Hughes told The Post.
Brees picking NBC over ESPN is also being seen as another miss for the World Wide Leader. CBS has found gold with Tony Romo, Peyton Manning has reportedly said no to Monday Night Football and now Bress is out too. Maybe they can see if Eli is available. Or hey, maybe Tom Brady will need to pick up some extra work after his time in Tampa Bay.
