Drew Brees thanks Saquon Barkley for setting good example for children

If you tuned into the 2019 ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, you saw New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley take home the “Best Breakthrough Athlete Award,” presented to him, in part, by former teammate Odell Beckham Jr.

But that wasn’t Barkley’s only moment in the spotlight.

At another point during Wednesday’s broadcast, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was presented with the “Best Record Breaking Performance Award” and during his acceptance speech, he singled Barkley out.

“Unbelievable to watch you play,” Brees said. “My boys love you. Thanks for setting the example that you’re setting.”

Barkley has gained the admiration of both teammates and opponents in his one professional season, not just because of his remarkable and other-worldly talents on the field, but because of his humble, respectful and conservative nature off of the field.

In fact, Barkley drew a huge shout-out from NFL legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders in addition to Brees.

Barkley not only had an amazing season, but has proven himself to be an equally amazing person. He’s one of the easiest players to root for in all of sports.
