Dressmaker turns out hundreds of scrubs for London hospital that saved husband

A dressmaker who works with leading designers is producing scrubs for frontline medics after her husband was hospitalised with Covid-19.

Sital Punja founded her Ruislip-based firm Threads six years ago.

Her workshop, which employs three members of staff, creates designs for JW Anderson, Halpern and Ted Baker.

But in March Mrs Punja was forced to close her doors due to the lockdown.

The following month her husband Anand, 45, was taken to Hillingdon Hospital with Covid-19.

He received oxygen therapy and was discharged after five days.

Shortly afterwards Mrs Punja, 46, was contacted by the For The Love Of Scrubs campaign, which helps create clothing for frontline workers.

She set up a subgroup at her workshop, where she cuts polycotton material for an “army” of seamstresses who finish the scrubs at home.

So far more than 1,350 have been made and given to Hillingdon and Harefield hospitals.

Mrs Punja said: “After my husband had Covid and was very sick I got to know the team at Hillingdon very well and wanted to do anything I could to help.

"Hillingdon saved my husband, so of course I wanted to help them. The staff have been saying they love their scrubs.

"The least we can do is help frontline workers feel their best.”
