Dressing room opinion: What Newcastle United players made of the 1-1 draw with Watford

Newcastle United picked up a point which allowed them to climb out of the relegation zone on Saturday night.

And while their clash with Watford was only deemed worthy of the infamous slot of being last on Match of the Day, it marked what some observers will deem a satisfactory start to the season for Steve Bruce's side.

Here's what the players made of it.

Jetro Willems (Nufc.co.uk)

"It’s unlucky, because we had some chances, and they didn’t create something – it was an unlucky goal.

"It was early in the game, but we tied it. And after, I think we showed them that we were better, even on the counter attack. They were only defending – they only played long balls. We should win this one, and then we are in a great position.

"We have had some progress.

"I think if you saw the first game, it was a miscommunication and we lost.

"But in the first half, I think we were better.

"Against Norwich, it was something that can happen. And after, against Tottenham, we were in shape.

"And now we keep going and we are in a good shape."

"We deserved more and with that little bit of luck we could have all three points.

"I think the first goal for Watford was bad for us.

"If we'd managed to avoid that we'd win the game.

"But we looked strong and didn't let us past us too many times.

"We came very close to scoring ourselves.

"For my delivery I just tried to get a cross in and Fabian can finish.

"It was an important moment for us but unfortunately we could not get the three points we wanted."

"It's hard to tell at the minute if it's two points dropped.

"We've had a lot of chances. I thought it was a good game with a lot of a chances at both ends of the pitch. I thought we had the better of them and if we were more clinical, we could have taken the three points.

"They're a good side.

"Their position in the table is a bit false and they've just had a bad start.

"A point can't be knocked at this stage of the season. Every point is important.

"Obviously, we were going for the three points and you could see that on the pitch, giving everything to go forward and to press and score that goal but sometimes in these games you look back and think it's a good point."
