Dressing room opinion: What Newcastle United players are saying after 3-1 defeat to Liverpool

The odds were stacked against Newcastle United players from the offset but they at least managed to make a fist of it in the opening half an hour.

Although, the verdict coming out of the dressing room at Anfield appeared to be that Newcastle had offered Liverpool a way back into the game rather than being outplayed.

Players weren't happy with the errors that unfolded before half-time and are determined to iron out their mistakes.

Here's which players emerged to have their say after the loss on Merseyside.

Jetro Willems

I think the first half, the first 20 minutes, we did quite good - one touch, searching for the space behind the defender

OK, sometimes offside, but, we were trying and we made two mistakes - and two goals against Liverpool

When you scored early, (to hold on for) 80 minutes  - it will be quite difficult

We need to keep belief and keep working and trying. We are capable of making something nice

We had some tough games already - against Arsenal, we did it quite good. Also, a mistake that we lost

Against Tottenham, we did it quite good.

So, we need to keep believing.

We knew it was going to be a tough game. Liverpool are a good side and we started off really well.

Unfortunately, we let them back into the game but, overall, we shouldn't let our heads drop as they're a really strong side.

The game plan was going very well and we started off brightly.

We thought if we defend well, we can do well against them but even if it's a lack of concentration for a second, these teams can hurt you.

We came here and gave it a good go.

Many teams will come here and play far worse than we did today.

We are still doing the right things and listening to what the manager wants.

We're trying to execute the game plans he wants to.

Our season won't be judged on Liverpool away.
