'Dressing Downton' exhibit extended at Driehaus Museum

March 07--"Downton Abbey" may have ended on American TV Sunday night, but the fashion show derived from it is getting three more weeks at its Chicago location.

The Driehaus Museum announced Monday that it is extending "Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times" to May 29, 21 days after the original May 8 scheduled closing.

"Due to the overwhelming response and popularity of the exhibition, which has attracted guests beyond fans of the show 'Downton Abbey,' the Driehaus Museum is pleased to be able to extend the exhibition through Memorial Day weekend," Executive Director, Lise Dub魓cherr said in a statement.

The exhibition at the museum just west of the Michigan Avenue shopping district consists of three dozen costumes worn during the first four seasons of the series chronicling life at an English country estate in the early 20th century. A hit on British television and on PBS here, it concluded its run Sunday night after six seasons.

The Driehaus, which offers an historical perspective on the decorative arts, is expecting to set attendance records with the "Downton" exhibit. A concurrent English tea service that the museum runs, for an extra charge, will not extend beyond its planned conclusion of May 6, officials said.
