DreamWorks Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg's pay reached $13.5 million in 2015

April 22--DreamWorks Animation Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg received compensation valued at $13.5 million in 2015, more than doubling his package from a year earlier.

His total compensation grew 112% from 2014, when it totaled $6.5 million, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday.

The package comprises $2.5 million in salary, stock options valued at $5 million, $6 million in non-equity incentives and $536,919 in other compensation. The total is in line with what the executive received in 2013.

Katzenberg controls 60.7% of DreamWorks' voting shares.

The pay hike occurred in a year in which the Glendale film studio faced numerous challenges. The company overhauled its film operations in the wake of a series of box-office flops, including "Turbo" and "Penguins of Madagascar," and reduced its output to only two films a year. The company also cut 500 jobs and closed its Redwood City, Calif., animation studio.

DreamWorks' financial picture brightened last year. Its revenue in 2015 was $916 million, a 33.8% increase over $685 million in 2014. The company lost $53.9 million, but that was a significant improvement over the $308 million net loss in 2014.

The studio's stock increased 15% in 2015 compared with the previous year when investors fled, causing shares to drop 37.1%.
