Captain Josh Falkingham admits winning promotion to the Football League puts Harrogate Town firmly in dreamland.
The North Yorkshire club deservedly overpowered the might of Notts County by three goals to one in Sunday’s National League play-off final at Wembley Stadium, to secure a first ever foray into the EFL.
Falkingham played a pivotal role in what was largely a dominant performance from Simon Weaver’s men, who assumed control of the final as early as the fourth minute when George Thomson poked Town in front.
Things got even better for Weaver’s side when Connor Hall made it 2-0 just shy of the half-hour and it could have been more, but for some sloppy finishing.
Notts threatened a comeback at the start of the second half when Cal Robert’s superbly powered in a free-kick, but any nerves in the Harrogate side were extinguished 20 minutes from time when Jack Diamond made it 3-1.
At the full-time whistle, wild celebrations on the Wembley turf followed, and Falkingham couldn't hide his delight.
"It's dreamland. It's an emotional time for a lot of us,” the Sulphurites’ captain said.
"There's not many big names in our group. We're just a hungry group of lads.
"It's been an amazing achievement. We're going to wake up tomorrow hungover but delighted.
"They're a good side and I think finishing second and third this was a deserved final.
"We managed it well when we were under pressure and got a goal at a good time.
"Jon Stead came on and his experience saw us through."
