'Dream' Dublin Metro and controversial BusConnects projects should be scraped according to National Bus and Rail Union

The controversial BusConnects and highly anticipated Dublin Metro could be scrapped altogether according to the National Bus and Rail Union.

The Union addressed the main political parties in a long letter today outlining future plans as public transport gets set to adapt to the COVID-19 world.

They say the high-cost projects should be abandoned in favour of lower-cost alternatives.

These other options offered include a Dart spur from Clongriffin to Dublin Airport; new Bus Rapid Transit services in Glasnevin, Finglas, Ballymun, and Swords; accelerated trial of hydrogen-powered bus and rail services, and a new tunnel linking Heuston and Connolly stations.

The Union has also said opening times for schools, colleges, and retail outlets in close proximity should be staggered to allow for people to travel at different times, and ensure social distancing can be maintained.

The letter in full can be accessed here.
