Dream Celtic move for Declan Gallagher 'could be scuppered by Motherwell contract clause'

Motherwell skipper Declan Gallagher is lining up a dream move to Celtic, according to reports.

The Scotland international is out of contract in the summer and Daily Record reports the defender wants to force through a move as he is "just six games away from triggering a one-year extension to his deal" at Fir Park.

Gallagher has made 19 appearance for the Steelmen and it is claimed a clause in his contract will means his extension will kick in if he hits 25 games, potentially scuppering a transfer.

The Record have quoted a source close to Gallagher as saying: “He is desperate to play for Celtic and in the current climate, he would be a brilliant signing.

“But with this contract and the automatic extension, he feels he has a gun to his head.”

Gallagher was involved in a Twitter argument last week with a Motherwell fan who claimed he wanted a move away from Fir Park, to which he replied "no got a clue."

But with Celtic's defensive line hampered by Christopher Julien being ruled out for four months and Nir Bitton set for a spell on the sidelines through suspension after his red card in Saturday's Old Firm derby defeat to Rangers, the Hoops could look to the centre-back.

Gallagher started his career at Parkhead as a youth but was released by the club in 2011.
