Dre Kirkpatrick talks Vontaze Burfict’s release

With the Cincinnati Bengals back in town for offseason activities, fans get a chance to catch up with the players.

Those players got lobbed a variety of questions during the opening week. One of the most prominent, thrown at locker room leader Dre Kirkpatrick, concerned the departure of another leader, Vontaze Burfict.

“I know he’ll do well out there in Oakland, but I can’t dwell on that,” Kirkpatrick said, according to Bengals.com. “That was a business decision. I don’t think it was personal. I’m just ready for what’s going on and embrace my new coach. That was a move that was already understood. Hate it happened, but it’s understood.”

Short and sweet. Despite Burfict’s public reputation, he had supporters in the locker room and not everyone was going to be fully onboard with the move right away.

But the message has clearly been received. New head coach Zac Taylor had a layup of a move to take and like the team’s official website goes on to say, the Burfict release spoke louder than anything he could have said at the podium while introducing himself this week.
