Drayton Manor is opening a brand new Thomas the Tank Engine themed ride

Drayton Manor has revealed plans to open a new ride at Thomas Land to delight Thomas & Friends super-fans this weekend.

On Saturday 29 April the first members of the public will be let loose on Thomas & Percy’s Submarine Splash, a baby flume featuring two mini drops.

It is opening at the resort in time to celebrate Thomas Land’s fifteenth anniversary, providing an exciting new addition at the attraction.

Visitors will board at Brendam Docks to help Thomas and Percy deliver the submarine to Vicarstown Museum, with help from Thomas’ good friend, Harold the Helicopter.

Thomas Land has seen more than 10 million visitors since opening in 2008 with rides such as Cranky’s Drop Tower where riders are dropped into action, as well as Thomas, Rosie and Percy Engine Tours which have travelled a total distance of 4,350 miles.

“We are thrilled to be able to expand upon the more than 25 rides and attractions at Thomas Land and offer new experiences for families to enjoy together,” said Julie Freeland, Sr. Director at Mattel.

“With the addition of Thomas & Percy’s Submarine Splash, Thomas fans will be able to partake in even more immersive adventures with their favourite Thomas & Friends characters whether by land, air or sea.”

The ride is the latest addition to the park, following two new areas opening in the past two years - Adventure Cove and Vikings.

Guests who want a double-dose of the theme park can "choo-choo-choose" one of the resort’s exclusive Thomas & Friends rooms in the onsite four-star hotel.

The rooms are decked out with all things Thomas, from character-themed beds through to rail track carpets, visitors can immerse themselves in the surroundings for the evening – before waking up and refuelling for another day of fun and adventure in the resort.

Day tickets to Drayton Manor cost from £30.

A short break at the park including a four star hotel stay, two day park tickets and perks including early ride access are available from £72.

Thrill seekers can also whizz along Adventure Cove (Handout)

Drayton Manor is not the only theme park to introduce a new ride this year.

Chessington World of Adventures has opened the World of Jumanji.

The new zone is set to open in spring at the Surrey theme park and zoo and will include the World’s only Jumanji rollercoaster.

The World of Jumanji will see families follow in the footsteps of Dr. Bravestone (played by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in the new films) through a whole world of adventures to locate the Jaguar’s Eye Jewel, lift the curse and save Jumanji.

The Mandrill Mayhem rollercoaster will sweep up riders in the long arms of the terrifying monkey, as the horde whisks those from just 1.2m tall around the sites of Jumanji, all while dodging the hazards of the jungle.

Mandrill Mayhem is the first coaster to be introduced at Chessington since 2004.
