The Warriors blowing a 3-1 lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals will be a moment that is never forgotten when telling the history of the NBA.
One of the key moments that led up to that was Draymond Green’s suspension for Game 5 after receiving too many technical fouls when the Warriors could’ve closed it out.
One would think that this is Green’s lowest moment. But, now, there’s something that tops it. At least for Green, himself.
The Warriors forward said that he was more upset for his ejection on Sunday against the Hornets than that moment in the Finals. He got two technical fouls in the game’s final moments and was ejected.
That eventually led to the Hornets hitting a game-winning shot and stealing a completely winnable game from the Warriors.
Green said that upset him more than his Finals moment. Not because they lost, but because he knew he was wrong.
“I was dead-ass wrong. … That whole situation bothered me more than being suspended from Game 5 of the NBA Finals in 2016.”

“As I sat and thought about the situation…I was dead ass wrong…It bothered me more than being suspended from Game 5 of the NBA Finals in 2016. And the reason it bothered me more than that is because, you know, you can have your thoughts on the game 5 situation…but this situation in particular I had complete control. And I let that control get away from me and, in turn, I let the game get away from myself and my teammates.”
That wasn’t all. He went on to talk about how difficult it is to win NBA games — especially for a young team like the one he’s on. And he feels like he took a valuable win from them.
“Winning an NBA game is not easy. And this young team has not had much experience with winning. And so to take the game away from my teammates, which they worked so hard for, was a bit frustrating for me. “
What a teammate. Hopefully, he’ll be better moving forward.
