Draymond Green: Warriors building focus as playoffs near

In his postgame presser following the Golden State Warriors’ 120-114 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday night, Draymond Green said, “It’s a focus thing.”

In other words, the Warriors have found it challenging to stay mentally engaged this season, and Green attributes those struggles with the championship run the team has been on and what sounds like the dismal task of facing “teams that don’t really match up talent-wise, and aren’t really playing for nothin’.”

Warriors coach Steve Kerr had asked his team if they could try for no more than two first-quarter turnovers against the Cavaliers and the Warriors completed the first period with none at all. So, apart from Kerr asking nicely, it seems the team needs motivation, or a simple, fundamental task on which to concentrate.

With the Warriors able to lock in on a turnover-free quarter, and Green pointing out that they are collectively trying to improve their focus as the playoffs near, Green said the team’s ability to focus in stretches is something positive to build upon.

“We’ve locked in, in stretches,” Green said. “We’ve had that focus in stretches … that’s a very comforting feeling.”

The Warriors play the Los Angeles Clippers at home on Sunday and then complete their regular season on the road against the New Orleans Pelicans (Tuesday, April 9) and the Memphis Grizzlies (Wednesday April 10).
