Draymond Green's arrest the result of two-day feud

The police report from Draymond Green's Sunday morning arrest in East Lansing, Mich., was released Wednesday and paints a more detailed picture of earlier reports of the Warriors forward slapping a football player.

The report confirms that the victim of Green's alleged assault is Michigan State football player Jermaine Edmondson and indicates the incident was the result of a two-day feud. Green also had a .10 blood alcohol content at the time of his arrest.

Edmondson told police it began Friday at a bar when Green bumped into Edmondson, who says he replied, "Hey bro, you can at least say 'Excuse me.' "

Green, a Michigan State alum, allegedly responded by asking, "Do you know who I am?" and added a quip about him paying for Edmondson's scholarship.

Edmondson alleges that two of Green's associates began to choke him out in the bar and later did the same to his girlfriend after he was taken downstairs by employees of the bar to calm down. He says he left without contacting police.

Edmondson was back in the area the next night to celebrate his birthday and ran into Green again, where he says he told Green that "last night wasn't cool." Green allegedly began to poke him in the shoulder and Edmondson said he told Green to takes his hands off of him when "boom, I'm punched in my jaw."

Police responded to what they called a "loud slap sound" and one officer reported witnessing a slap, not a punch as Edmondson accuses. The report indicates Edmondson initially told officers he wished to press charges, although in Edmondson's recorded statement on the report it says he had no injuries and didn't wish to pursue charges.

However, Edmondson provided a written statement the next day and said his neck and jaw still hurts and he "would like to take further action on this situation and I am willing to fully cooperate to get this situation taken care of."

Edmondson has not returned a message from this newspaper seeking comment.

Police wrote in the report that Green was apologetic after being taken into custody and that he said he wanted to speak with Edmondson "to make things right."

After being transported to jail, Green was given a preliminary breath test that indicated a .10 blood alcohol content and he remained in jail until sober.

Since the arrest, Green has only briefly commented on the incident, responding to a question Tuesday at Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colo., by saying, "I think when things happen, I think you meet them head on. My legal team is handling it. It will be resolved really quickly. As a public figure, I just can't put myself in certain situations. It's something that I'll learn from and just move on."
