Draymond Green: ‘I haven’t played well enough to make the All-Star team’

Next weekend, the NBA kicks off it’s All-Star Weekend in Charlotte. The Warriors are sending three guys to participate in Sunday’s contest — Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson — but the weekend will happen without Draymond Green for the first time in three seasons.

According to Green, he wasn’t expecting to play in this year’s mid-season exhibition game because he hasn’t played as well as he expects out of himself.

“I had already planned my vacation anyway. I haven’t played well enough to make the All-Star team,” Green said. “I know that. I’m excited to go on vacation with my family.”

“I just haven’t played well enough. Obviously the majority of the time most people are building their All-Star case, I was kind of building conditioning,” Green said. “So it happens. But I’ll be back. I’m not tripping. There were a lot of guys playing well.”

There’s a lot of self-awareness from Green there. He hadn’t played his best first half of the season, but he has come on as of late, taking care of the ball and finding teammates in half-court sets.

Green recently got married and has a kid, so the vacation instead of the All-Star festivities should be good for Green. He’s dealt with a couple of minor injuries and he said that he’s looking forward to the “mental break” too.
