Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been a vocal leader the past few seasons, and he didn’t hesitate to be honest about the reality of Thursday night’s season-opening loss.
“I’m not a moral victory type of guy,” Green said, per KNBR. “I’m not leaving this game looking for something to build off on. We (expletive) sucked. And we gotta get better.”
The Warriors lost 141-122 against the Los Angeles Clippers in their home opener at Chase Center. The Warriors gave up 46 points in the third quarter, and their defense wasn’t on the level it’s typically been in the past.
Still, Green and the Warriors aren’t making any excuses.
“This is more the reality of the NBA,” coach Steve Kerr said, per 95.7 The Game. “The last five years, we’ve been living in a world that isn’t supposed to exist. Five years that basically was record-wise, I believe the best stretch anybody’s ever had over five years. This is reality. Nine guys 23 or younger. We’re starting over in many respects.”
The Warriors are in a different spot beginning this season. They’re not the clear-cut best team in the league anymore. They’re not even a top 10 team as of now. It’s going to be a process for them this season.
The Warriors will play the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road Sunday afternoon.
