Draymond Green could be headed to the shelf with a sprained finger

Draymond Green may be the last man standing from the Warriors’ 2019 NBA Finals contender, but not even he is invincible.

Following the team’s 127-110 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night, Green was diagnosed with a sprained left index finger. He has been somewhat vocal about the fact that his finger was bothering him, and it was conspicuously wrapped when he addressed reporters following Friday night’s game.

On Saturday, the Warriors will be playing the second game of a back-to-back when they host the Charlotte Hornets, and Green’s status for the contest is in doubt. At this point, according to ESPN’s Nick Friedell, it remains unclear whether Green will undergo an MRI or not, but head coach Steve Kerr has already gone on record as saying that the Warriors will be pitch counting Green over the course of the season.

As competitive as any other player we’ve ever seen, it would probably be wise for the Warriors to limit Green’s exposure. While he’s on the floor, he won’t take any plays off and frankly, it might be wise for the Warriors to protect him from himself.

With Curry expected to miss at least the next three months, the Warriors should be focused on development, scouting draft prospects and fielding a healthy and spry club for the 2020-21 season.

That might mean protecting Green from himself.
