Drawer find brings school days in the aftermath of WW2 back to life

The grainy picture is rather frayed and yellowing now.

Indeed, some of the survivors from this cheery lot from the 1940s are now looking a little worse for wear themselves!

This is the East Primary senior class of 1947 or 48.

The school stood in the Bank Street area near Christie Street, which is now the car park for The Lagoon.

Back then, that part of town was home to old stone tenements, corner shops and chippies and another school, Paisley Grammar Primary.

This 33-strong pupil class, pictured with their teacher, has surfaced thanks to Margaret McCrorie.

Margaret is 85 now and still living happily in Paisley, moving to Glenburn.

She’s the blonde girl, second from the right in the third row.

She said: “I would have been 11 then, in a school very different to schools today.

“I remember the long walk to school from my house in Abercorn Street.”

Do you recognise anyone in the photo?
