Dramatic winning images of the Weather Photographer of the Year 2019 revealed

The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), in association with WeatherPro, has named the winners of the Weather Photographer of the Year awards 2019.

In its brief, the RMetS said it was looking for the best photographs from around the world that depict weather in its 'widest sense.'

The Society was after images that show off the "dramatic, often fascinating impact and story of weather."

The World Meteorological Organization defines weather as: "The state of the atmosphere at a specific time. It is the short term or instantaneous variations of the atmosphere, as opposed to the long term, or climatic changes."

More than 5,700 photographs were submitted to the competition from nearly 2,000 photographers.

Having nailed the brief with his image of a cloud inversion in Snowdonia at dawn, titled 'Above my Expectation', Gareth Mon Jones scooped Weather Photographer of the Year 2019.
