Dramatic showdown on ITV's The Chase between Liverpool man and Anne Hegerty

A Liverpool man was forced to go head-to-head against Anne Hegerty after she annihilated his whole team on The Chase.

The 51-year-old sales manager was last to take on Anne and fans of the award-winning quiz show were rooting for Ian, even before his cash builder.

Ian, a keen sailor and member of the Royal Liverpool Yacht Club, said he wanted to spend his potential winnings on a new radar for his boat which he keeps on the coast of Wales.

Despite Anne trying to persuade him to go high, he stuck with the £7,000 as The Governess had not got a single question wrong throughout the show.

The chaser was on fine form taking down Joel, 29, London, Caroline, 36, from Cambridgeshire and Trish, 65, from Rochdale without breaking a sweat.

But Ian managed to make it back for the final chase after getting just one question wrong.

Viewers of the ITV show were predicting Anne's victory before the last round, with many saying they had never seen a single player take out the former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star.

Unfortunately, Ian only managed 14 correct answers, Bradley said it was great for someone on their own and had been a winning score in the past.

But not this time as Anne caught Ian comfortably with 47 seconds to spare, having not got a question wrong for the whole show.

Anne said: "You all got very good cash builders, but you are the one that got through, so well done for that."
