Dramatic scenes in East Lothian as armed police storm Musselburgh house amid 'reports of threats'

There were dramatic scenes for residents in Musselburgh on Friday night as armed police stormed a property.

At around 6pm, up to seven police vehicles pulled up to the Somerset Fields area as firearms officers and police dogs surrounded a house.

In a clip sent to Edinburgh Live, armed police can be seen approaching the door with their weapons raised.

Police revealed that the incident was a" pre-planned operation" carried out amid "reports of threats".

It is understood police also surrounded a property in Dalkeith, in connection with the incident.

Officers say a 33-year-old man has now been arrested and remains in police custody.

A Police Scotland spokesperson: “As part of an ongoing investigation, a pre-planned operation involving firearms officers was carried out today (Friday, 17 April, 2020) in connection with reports of threats.

“Officers were in attendance at two addresses, one in Somerset Fields, Musselburgh and‎ one in Newton Village, Dalkeith.

“A 33-year-old man has been arrested and is in police custody. Enquiries continue.

“There is no ongoing threat to the wider community.”
