Dramatic scenes in Duddingston as armed police descend on Edinburgh street

Armed police have descended on Duddingston Row in Edinburgh, closing the street and asking locals to move away.

Local resident Richard Spence took to Twitter to share a video of at least six police vehicles closing both ends of the street.

He said: "A typical Easter Friday morning with Duddingston Row closed by the armed response unit and yours truly being asked to move on."

The video shows the street closed with police tape at both ends, and multiple police vehicles parked along it.

Mr Spence is then asked to move away by an officer, and replies "ok boss."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh, supported by specialist resources, carried out a planned operation at an address in Duddingston Row on Friday 19th April.

"Inquiries in relation to this matter are ongoing."

Mr Spence also shared this photo of armed cops leaving the scene (https://twitter.com/scribblingscots/status/1119190584458186752)

The incident comes just two days after similar scenes unfolded in Edinburgh's West End; a large number of armed police descended on Chester Street after local boxing gym owner and Trainspotting 2 star Bradley Welsh was shot outside his home.
