Dramatic rescue as people stuck on M&Ds rollercoaster

Thrillseekers had to be rescued after becoming stuck mid air on a rollercoaster at M&D's Theme Park over the weekend.

Onlookers reported that a harness-clad worker had to climb the large Mad Mouse ride after it broke down high above the ground on Saturday afternoon.

Images, taken by bystanders, showed a staff member in a suit watching on as a worker in a safety harness scaled a ladder to reach the stricken car.

Those stuck could be seen looking down from a height as staff worked underneath the track to quickly resolve the issue.

A spokeswoman for M&D's told Lanarkshire Live: "On Saturday afternoon a minor electrical fault occurred on a ride which automatically triggered the safety mechanism bringing the ride to a halt.

"Staff helped people off the ride and at no point was anyone in any danger.

"The ride is fully operational."

Bosses at the Motherwell-based theme park were previously hit with a massive £65,000 fine after a horror accident on a rollercoaster back in 2016, when 10 people were injured to the danger of their lives.

A failure of the suspension and axle on their Tsunami ride caused five gondolas to come away from the rails at a bend as the attraction reached speeds of 40mph.

The cars plunged 17ft off the ride, sparking a huge emergency response.

The park's owners later appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted breaching health and safety laws on the ride between June 2015 and June 2016.

Last June the park was saved from administrators and new management took over.
