Three men have been arrested after a stolen car was caught driving the wrong way down three different motorways.

The dramatic police chase down the M62, M61 and M60 on Saturday, involved a Fiesta which was stolen during a robbery in Crumpsall.

Police said the car was initially pursued by Merseyside Police, followed by Cheshire Police and Greater Manchester Police, as it drove the wrong way down the motorways.

The incident finally came to an end when the vehicle was tracked by a police helicopter.

Three men were arrested for robbery in Salford by patrolling officers. They have been taken to Central Park Police Station for questioning.

A spokesperson from GMP Traffic said on Twitter: "Earlier today this Fiesta was stolen by means of robbery from Crumpsall.

"It would then be pursued by Merseyside Police's Roads Policing Unit and Cheshire Police into GMP where it drove the wrong way down the M62, M61 and M60."

They added: "With the National Police Air Service the car was tracked and three males arrested in Salford by patrols.

"All three males were arrested for robbery and are currently at central park police station.

"Should anyone have dashcam footage of the vehicle travelling the wrong way on the motorways please contact us via 101 or online @NWmwaypolice."
