Dramatic pictures show clean-up operation on M1 after lorry carrying tubes of Pringles catches fire

Highways England has released dramatic photographs of its M1 clean-up operation following a large lorry fire earlier this morning (January 12).

The images show emergency services, Crouch Recovery and traffic officers working to clear the A52 exit for Derby and Nottingham, which remains closed.

The lorry, which was carrying tubes of Pringles, spilled its load out onto the road.

The lorry, which seems to have been transporting toiletries, was seen engulfed in flames on the motorway at just before 7am.

Crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue attended the scene and have since extinguished the blaze although a large amount of smoke was still billowing across the M1 for some time after. This has since cleared.

A statement on Highways England's Twitter account reads: "Crouch Recovery are working with our team and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue to recover the vehicle.

"Rest assured we are working as quickly and as safely as possible to get the slip open again."

The incident has now been cleared, Highways England confirmed.

The northbound exit slip at J25 was closed for more than four hours.
