Dramatic pictures show flooded railway tracks as Manchester trains are cancelled

Dramatic pictures show a flooded railway line between Manchester and Liverpool this morning.

The line is currently blocked with flood water after Storm Barra brought heavy rain to the region.

Trains via Eccles are cancelled on Northern and TransPennine Express services between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street.

Services are also cancelled between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street.

The flooding is between Huyton and Newton-le-Willows, according to National Rail.

In a tweet, Northern rail said customers travelling between Eccles and Manchester in both directions can travel on the Metrolink.

Several roads are also closed this morning due to flooding.

The A555 Manchester Airport Link Road is shut both ways between Styal Road and Bramhall Oil Terminal.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

The A34 Pendleton Way is also shut in both directions.
