Dramatic pictures show dog being rescued after falling off Scots cliff

A young dog had a lucky escape after being rescued from a ledge after plunging off a cliff in Orkney.

An RNLI rescue crew was scrambled to the scene at Orphir on Thursday morning after two-year-old Blue ended up in the icy waters.

The plucky pooch managed to scramble his way onto a cliff ledge where he was found thankfully unharmed.

Blue was thankfully unharmed following his ordeal and was returned to his owner by an RNLI crew (RNLI Stromness Lifeboat)

With the tide coming in, rescuers quickly managed to get him onboard the lifeboat before reuniting him with his relieved owner.

RNLI Stromness Lifeboat shared images of the rescue and told how little Blue was thankfully unharmed following his ordeal.

They said: “Here's a dramatic picture of Blue, the two year-old Border Collie being rescued from the base of the cliff in Orphir this morning by the volunteer crew.

“No one is sure what happened but Blue somehow fell or 'descended' the cliff into the water and managed to clamber out onto the ledge.

“Blue is at home now and wiser but, happily, none the worse for his ordeal. A very big thank you from Blue and his owner to the super Stromness volunteers.”
