Dramatic pictures show charred remains of cars after multiple 'deliberate' fires in Peterlee

A series of shocking photos show the extent of damage caused after multiple vehicle fires in County Durham as the fire service appeals for information.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service were called to multiple car fires across the Peterlee area on Thursday night.

Photos shared by Peterlee Fire Station show the charred remains of the burnt-out vehicles, with the fires causing some front windscreens to shatter and break.

The fire service said it believes the fires were started deliberately and appealed to the public for help urging anyone with information to get in touch.

A spokesperson for Peterlee Fire Station said: "On Thursday night crews attended multiple car fires in the Peterlee area.

"These incidents are believed to have been started deliberately.

"If you have any information regarding deliberate fires in your area please call Firestoppers anonymously on 0800 169 5558

"When you contact Firestoppers you remain 100% anonymous, your phone number cannot be seen, your call is never recorded, the telephone line or IP address is scrambled so it is impossible for any to redial or track your call, or to know where, or what device, the online information has come from."
