Dramatic pictures show a car engulfed in flames at the side of the road on the A46.
The blaze was reported just before 6pm near the Elston junction on Saturday, September 5.
The car, which was pulled up onto a grass verge at the side of the northbound carriageway, was completely ablaze - with smoke billowing into the air.
Police and fire crews both attended and the carriageway, heading towards Newark, was closed while they worked at the scene.
Stewart Codd was in a car which drove past as the emergency services were arriving.
He said: "It looks like if had been going about ten minutes before we arrived at least.
"When we went past, two engines were travelling to it plus a police car."
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: "Collingham and Newark fire are attending a car well alight on the northbound carriageway of the A46 north of Syerston.
"Nottinghamshire Police also in attendance. A46 northbound completely closed.
"Please avoid the area."
The road has since been reopened.
