Another photograph shows a burnt-out car outside the entrance to the Crown Street hospital.

The pictures come as eyewitnesses reported hearing a 'bang' and seeing smoke from the area.

A video from the scene shows smoke billowing into the sky.

Police have released few details but did confirm they were called to the scene at 11am today (Sunday, November 14).

A number of roads around the hospital have been cordoned off and Merseyside Fire and Rescue along with a Royal Logistic Corps army vehicle are at the scene.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that an incident occurred at around 11am today (Sunday, 14 November) outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
