Dramatic pictures show car crushed beneath tram after collision near to the Baguley Metrolink stop

Dramatic pictures taken by a passer-by show the shocking damage to a vehicle after a collision between a car and a tram on Saturday evening.

The pictures, sent to the M.E.N. by a witness who was at the scene, show what appears to be a white Volkswagen Golf GTI crushed beneath a Metrolink tram.

The incident took place this evening at around 8pm near to the Baguley Metrolink stop at the Floatshall Road crossing.

Metrolink was unable to run any services between Barlow Moor Road and Martinscroft for a time on Saturday night, following the collision.

The airport line is now open again, but is experiencing minor delays.

It is not thought that anyone in the car or on the tram suffered serious injuries.

Photos from the scene show the white vehicle with its front bumper hanging off and its bonnet badly damaged.

Crashes involving cars and trams are relatively common in Manchester.

There were severe delays earlier this week when a car hit a tram near Ladywell Metrolink station, on Eccles New Road during rush hour.

That incident, which happened on Tuesday, was a low-speed collision with no reported injuries.
