Dramatic pictures show the aftermath of a two-car crash that closed an entire road outside a pub.
Emergency services were called to Queens Drive , at the junction of Prescot Road, after reports of a crash involving multiple cars outside The Navigator pub.
Police, fire crews and paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 5.30pm to find that significant damage had been caused to two cars.
Firefighters were photographed cutting the roof off one car to free the driver as police officers closed the road .
It is believed that the drivers and passengers involved suffered only minor injuries in the crash but witnesses say that at least one person was put into the back of an ambulance, possibly as a precaution.
The cars were recovered shortly before 8pm and the road was reopened.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Officers were called to reports of a multi-vehicle crash at 5.35pm.
"A road closure was put in place to allow the fire service and paramedics to deal with the incident.
"The collision was originally believed to be damage only but it appears those involved may have suffered slight injury.
"The cars are in the process of being recovered and then the road closure will be lifted."
