Dramatic pictures show aftermath of lorry crash on the M1 which left driver lucky to be alive

Dramatic pictures show the aftermath of a crash on the M1 which left a lorry driver lucky to survive.

Officials from the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said a lorry suffered a tyre blowout on the northbound carriageway between junction 29A and junction 30.

A lorry travelling behind failed to see this, police said, and crashed into the rear of the truck.

Officers released pictures showing the aftermath of the dramatic incident on Twitter.

Photos show two lorries, with the cab of one almost completely destroyed.

Debris was scattered across the motorway.

On Twitter, the force said on Tuesday (November 30): "Lorry 1 has blowout and slows in lane 1.

"Lorry 2 fails to see this and drives in to the back of it. Check the damage - the driver is incredibly lucky to escape death.

"Small cut to head and hopefully buying a lottery ticket. Stay alert."
