Dramatic pictures show aftermath of horror crash which closed Airport relief road for hours

This is the aftermath of a horror crash on the A555 Airport relief road today.

Police have urged people to 'drive to the conditions' after two separate collisions on the road today - as torrential rain battered most of the region.

Dramatic pictures show a BMW which had ended up on the central reservation after skidding into a barrier.

The car appears to be badly damaged and was later seen being towed away from the scene.

Miraculously nobody was injured in either of the crashes, GMP Traffic confirmed on Twitter.

"Another reminder to drive to the conditions during heavy rain earlier on the A555 airport relief road," they tweeted.

"Two separate single vehicle collisions, both quite spectacular but fortunately no injuries and no delays caused to other traffic."

The A555 Manchester Airport relief road was shut in the Handforth and Heald Green area, near Stockport, for several hours this afternoon.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a major smash.

One told the Manchester Evening News the incident involved a 'huge crash', less than two miles from the airport's runway.

Others reported seeing a 'very bad car accident' on the road.
