Dramatic pictures capture lorry fire on the A55

A lorry fire and crash has caused chaos for morning commuters on the A55 Expressway in north Wales.

Firefighters were called to a lorry alight at Caerwys just after two separate crashes at Rhuallt Hill and Glan Conwy.

Photos of the lorry fire show large flames coming from the tanker which was believed to have been transporting tarmac, reports NorthWalesLive.

The driver of the lorry managed to escape the burning wagon after pulling over because he thought the vehicle had a puncture.

He did not suffer any injuries.

He said the truck suddenly went up in flames but he managed to get out without being hurt.

The vehicle caught fire just before 8.30am this morning and has now been extinguished.

The eastbound side of the carriageway will remain closed for at least one more hour due to oil and fuel on the carriageway.

There are long queues back to J29 Rhuallt Hill.

The westbound side of the road has reopened but traffic is heavy in the area.
