Dramatic pictures and video show the extent of the queues in supermarkets

Dramatic pictures reveal queues of people at Tesco in Top Valley - with one shopper claiming there was hardly anything left on the shelves.

She said people were queuing from 9am on Sunday, March 22, to get hold of essentials.

A time lapse video of shoppers going in and out of Aldi throughout the day has also been uploaded by the Friends of Woodthorpe Grange Park to show people the extent of the supermarket crisis.

The government has urged shoppers not to stock pile and that there is enough food for everyone after shelves were stripped of toilet paper, pasta and hand sanitiser.

The video uploaded on to Twitter said: "Sometimes to record history in the making is better to film it on time lapse, as it gives you the enormity of the scale.

"As you will see when filming the queue of shoppers waiting for the supermarket to open at 8am this morning (Saturday)."
