Dramatic photos show helicopter rescue after walker falls on Scots hillside

Dramatic photos have shown the moment an injured walker was airlifted to safety on a Scots hillside.

The walker, believed to be a woman, had fallen on Bennachie, a range of hills in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday.

A walker who snapped the images told the Record the incident happened around 12:30pm.

An ambulance raced to the nearby carpark but the coastguard helicopter had to be called in to rescue the casualty from the steep hill.

An incident response unit was also pictured at the remote site.

Alex Macleod, who is a frequent walker in the beauty spot, said: "I noticed two ambulances at Rowantree carpark and went up the hill towards Mither Tap, the peak in the picture."

In the hair-raising pictures, a rescuer can be seen dangling from the helicopter as the casualty is hoisted up.

The fallen walker also appears to have been secured in a stretcher by the rescue team.

Alex added: "About halfway up met up with ambulance teams who were attending to a woman who had fallen, badly broken arm."

"Due to the location, the air ambulance helicopter wouldn’t be able to land nearby, so winch up was the option they decided on."

It's not known what the woman's condition was as she was taken to hospital.

Maritime & Coastguard Agency has been contacted for comment.
