Dramatic photos of this morning’s lorry fire on the M60

Huge queues delayed motorists around Manchester this morning as a lorry burst into flames.

Nearby motorists were able to catch some photos of the plume of smoke emanating from the vehicle.

The incident happened just past the Eccles Interchange on the M60 just as rush hour was getting underway.

Highway bosses stopped all traffic clockwise between the two junctions, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Tailbacks were reported to affect large chunks of the M60 as well as the M62 heading towards Leeds, with delays of up to an hour.

No reports on the driver of the vehicle have been confirmed yet, but the lorry was recovered around 11.30am this morning.

Efforts to extinguish the fire began at 6.50am and it took nearly half an hour to fully put out the fire, according to Highways England.

Nathan Bonner managed to snap some photos of the affected lorry.
