Dramatic moment police taser knife-wielding man as he lurches at officers during arrest

This is the dramatic moment a man is tasered inside his home after launching at officers with a knife during his arrest.

Officers attended 53-year-old Glen Burton's home in Nottingham on February 24 to arrest him, who initially got angry and resisted their attempts to arrest him.

The footage shows officers calming Burton down, and he apologised for his behaviour.

Burton then asks to get changed in his kitchen, where he suddenly pulls a knife from a drawer and lurches at the officers, shouting: "Get out of my house!"

In fear for their safety, the officers then retreated before tasering Burton to the floor.

They then managed to safely detain him and seized the weapon.

Burton appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 26 February 2020 for sentencing having admitted a charge of affray.

He was sent to prison for 18 weeks.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Grant, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The officers deserve praise for how professionally they dealt with this situation and how they dealt with Burton.

“They managed Burton upon his arrest and allowed him to get dressed. They would have had no reason to fear for their safety at this time.

“What Burton did next was unprovoked, arming himself with a kitchen knife and displaying threatening and aggressive behaviour, causing the officers to retreat into the living room.

“The officers quite rightly feared for their safety and Burton followed them into the living room brandishing the knife while still showing aggression.

“They dealt with the situation in a professional manner, Tasering the suspect and taking control of him afterwards.”Mark Petrovic, Chairman of the Nottinghamshire Police Federation, said: “Incidents like this just show what our brave officers face almost every day.

“Even after reasoning with Burton they were careful to keep their wits about them and reacted quickly to save themselves from possible serious injury.

“It highlights just how important Taser can be to protect officers.”
