A disabled pensioner was saved from an oncoming train with a split second to spare thanks to a fast-acting police officer.
The man’s wheelchair had got lodged in railway tracks at a level crossing just as the gates were coming down.
Police officer Erika Urrea spotted the man from her patrol car and rushed to release him from his chair.
She then managed to hurl him – and herself – out of harm’s way.
Her police department in Lodi, California, said they were “extremely proud" of the officer's "heroism.”
Posting bodycam footage of the dramatic rescue on Facebook, they wrote: “Officer Urrea risked her own life to save another and her actions prevented a tragedy today.
“We are extremely proud of Officer Erika Urrea and her heroism.”
The 66-year-old man suffered a leg injury and was later treated in hospital.
