Dramatic moment police officer rescues man from freezing river in Manchester

A man was saved from drowning when a police officer jumped eight-feet into a cold, fast flowing river, before pulling him to safety. 

PC Mohammed Nadeem had been called out to the Hardys Gate Bridge which runs over the river Irwell in Bury, Greater Manchester, where he found the man on his phone. 

After negotiating with the for some time, the man fell into the freezing river and it quickly became clear he was in difficulty. 

So the student officer jumped into the freezing river and swam towards the man in order before pulling him to safety. 

The man was later treated by paramedics, but was unharmed.
